Daraz Moving Toward Environmentally Sustainable Operations, To use electric scooters for delivery

KATHMANDU

With the intention of moving towards more sustainable business operations, Daraz, Nepal’s leading online marketplace, is now implementing the use of Electric Scooters in its delivery fleets. The company announced that it had recently purchased Okinawa Dual electric scooters which will be used to conduct deliveries within Kathmandu Valley. These electric scooters will be used to deliver goods to customers from Dhumbarahi, Chabahil, Kapan, Kuleshwor, Kalimati, Newroad, Nagarjun and a few other areas in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

Through this new initiative, Daraz is expecting to replace the consumption of imported fossil fuel with domestically generated clean and green electricity, and also reduce its carbon footprint. Furthermore, the company has also mentioned its plan to further expand the number of electric vehicles within its fleet in both the two and four-wheeler segments.

Ms. Aanchal Kunwar, Managing Director of Daraz  says, ‘Adding electric scooters to our delivery fleet is just an additional step towards sustainable operations at Daraz. As a company, we strive to reduce our carbon footprint consistently. Using recycled papers for almost 80% of our packaging flyers, implementing rainwater harvesting system at our Thasikhel hub, encouraging employees to segregate waste, using RF scanners for going paperless operations, and planting 400+ trees at a community forest in Nagarjun are few of the initiatives that we have undertaken in earlier days to build a sustainable business operation. We will continue to look for ways to help build a greener Nepal.’

At an event recently held at Daraz’s Thasikhel Hub on the 23rd of September, Managing Director of Daraz Nepal, Ms. Aanchal Kunwar handed the keys of the electric scooters to the delivery heroes of the company’s Gopi Krishna, Soaltee Mode and Thasikhel Hubs.
