Price of cement has increased to 50 rupees per sack

KATHMANDU

The price of cement has increased in the market due to the increase in the prices of other materials during Dashain and Tihar festivals. During this period, the price of cement has increased by up to 50 rupees per sack.

After Dashain and Tihar, the demand for physical construction also increases. Generally, the price of construction materials on the market becomes more expensive during this season compared to other times. However, this time the price of cement has already increased by industries. According to businessmen, the price of cement has increased from 30 to 50 rupees per sack.

Businessmen say that the increase in the import value of coal from India has also caused the price of cement to increase in Nepal. “Coal used in the cement industry is imported from India. Currently, the price of coal in India has increased. This increase in price has also affected cement,” said K.P. Upadhyay, Secretary-General of the Cement Manufacturers Association.

According to Upadhyay, the supply of cement has increased in the western region, which has led to an increase in prices from Bhairahawa to the western region. Currently, even if there is no supply of cement in Kathmandu, the price of cement is seen to be 15 to 20 rupees more expensive in the surrounding areas of Kathmandu.
