Base rate of banks hits single digits in Chaitra as interest rates decline

KATHMANDU

In the month of Chaitra, the base rate of banks has also decreased. The banks have been continuously reducing the interest rate on recent deposits, which has led to a decrease in their base rate of banks.

According to the latest data, in the month of Chait, the base rate of banks dropped to a single digit. Except for Kumari and Prime Commercial Bank, the base rate of other commercial banks has been fixed at 9.05 percent in Chait. Whereas in Falgun, the base rate of commercial banks was 9.34 percent.

After increased liquidity in the banking system, banks have been continuously reducing the interest rate on recent deposits. Due to the decrease in the interest rate on deposits, the base rate of banks has also decreased.

However, as the base rate decreases, business owners who have not seen a decrease in the interest rate on loans at banks are complaining. Some businessmen claim that along with the decrease in the base rate, the interest rate on bank loans has also decreased and will continue to decrease from Baisakh-Jestha onwards.
