Bhairavkunda of Sindhupalchowk is a favorite of tourists

Kathmandu. The number of tourists in Bhairavkunda area located in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk has increased in recent times. Hindus and Buddhists worship the pond even today. Sherpas worship it as Mother Chumen.

Located at an altitude of 6,567 meters above sea level, this pond is located at an altitude of 4,124 meters above sea level. According to Pasang Norbu Sherpa, chairman of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, the lake is spread over 84,193 square meters. However, the depth of the lake has not been measured yet. The water of the pond has added attraction to a 198-meter-high waterfall that falls a little below the pond.

Tourists are attracted by the natural beauty here. From here, there is the Jugal mountain range. The harder it is to reach Bhairavkunda, which is considered to be naturally supernatural, the pain of natural juice is forgotten after reaching there. It is one and a half to two days from Tatopani Larcha, which is located at 109 km of the Araniko Highway, by walking on a steep steep cliff.

Especially on Janai Purnima, there is a crowd of devotees here. The historical Dugunagadhi built during the war with the Bhots in 1911 BS is also located in this area. One can also visit Bhairavkunda from the Dugunagadhi fort, which was built during the time of the then Jung Bahadur Rana to kill the Bhots.

Bhairavkund can be reached via Daklang, Kanglang, Listimai of Listi on the Araniko Highway, Chhagam, Bagam and Chakoramkor via Chhagam, Bagam and Chakoramkor, says local Veena Rokka Adhikari. There is a legend that Lord Shiva and Parvati reside here. Lord Shiva is considered to be the protector of Bhairav. Bhairavkund is considered as the playground of Lord Shiva, so a big fair is held at Bhairavkunda on the day of Janai Purnima.

There is another famous place near Bhairavkund, Deudhunga. After traveling 45 kilometers from the Kodari road and Hindi, one reaches Deudhunga, which is bordered by Bigu in Dolakha. This year, thousands of devotees have made pilgrimage to these two religious places.

Based on the legend and belief, domestic tourists make a religious pilgrimage to Bhairavkund and Deudhunga. Pilgrims from all over the country visit Bhairavkunda because of the religious belief that ‘whatever you ask for, you get’. Domestic pilgrims go there to fill the fair regardless of geographical difficulty. These areas are the choice of tourists not only from domestic but also from China, India and Western countries. Before the earthquake, one thousand foreign tourists used to visit Dugunagadhi Fort and Bhairavkunda every year. Buddha Shrestha, a local, said that tourists are attracted by the view of different parts of Tibet including the district from here.

The beautiful mountains of Nepal and Tibet can be seen from Bhairavkunda, which clearly shows the area up to Khasa and Kuti in Tibet and even the Dharahara of Kathmandu. European, American and Japanese tourists visit this place from August to Kartik and from March to May.

This area with cold climate is a storehouse of herbs like Yarsagumba, Sunpati, Panchaunle, Thulookhiti, Jatamasi, Neermasi, Majetho, Chiraito, etc. Similarly, Bhairavkund is also home to rare wildlife like tiger, bear, leopard, wolf, boar, tharal, ghoral, snow leopard.

Every year, the number of devotees visiting Bhairavkunda on Janai Purnima is increasing. During the journey, they reach here by crossing various obstacles, obstacles and difficulties. In between, one has to stay in yak sheds. For the convenience of tourists, now they have a plan to construct water and a board for lodging on the way, said Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality Chairman Sherpa. He said that the rural municipality aims to manage the footpath and connect it with roads.

According to the rural municipality, if the Kunda is made more systematic and publicized and put more tourists in the first choice at the initiative of the concerned bodies, it will not only benefit the people of Sindhupalchowk economically but also help to make the entire district known in the world.
