Contracts of roads that have been stalled for years to be scrapped

Kathmandu. KANCHANPUR: The process to scrap the contracts of various road projects in Kanchanpur district that have been stalled for long has begun.

The process of scrapping the contracts of the roads that have been stalled for a long time by the Infrastructure Development Office and the Division Road Office, Mahendranagar, has started the process of terminating the contracts of the roads which have not made any progress so far. The Office has initiated the process to terminate the contract by issuing a 15-day public notice.

Information Officer at Infrastructure Development Office, Kanchanpur, Laxman Raj Joshi, said that the contract for road projects which had been stalled for long is being terminated as per the Public Procurement Act-2063 and Public Procurement Rules-2064 BS and prevailing laws.

“We have started the process of terminating the contracts of 25 road projects that were delaying the road construction despite repeated reminders,” he said. ‘

According to the Infrastructure Development Office, the progress of most of the road projects started from the fiscal year 2076/77 BS is minimal. Locals have been complaining that the contractors have been delaying the construction works.

Similarly, the Road Division Office, Mahendranagar, 2078/79 has started the process to terminate the contracts that have not been completed, said Hari Prasad Joshi, Information Officer at the Road Division Office. According to the office, the expansion of roads at various places along the Attariya-Gaddachauki section of the East-West Highway and upgrading of Khutiyapul-Urma-Bhada road in Kailali have been stalled. As per the contract agreement, the contractor has started the process to terminate the contract after the construction company failed to complete the construction of the road despite repeated reminders. Most of the roads in rural areas are on the list of contracts to be terminated. The locals have been facing a lot of trouble in commuting due to the lack of construction of these roads.
