Kathmandu. Deputy Speaker Ruby Kumari Thakur has said that she will not participate in the dowry marriage. She said this via social media (Facebook) .

‘… I would like to inform you that I will not be able to attend the dowry marriage. “Please encourage the practice of dowry-free, equality-based and cultured marriages,” she wrote. ’

Stating that accepting marriages based on dowry, participating in such ceremonies or receiving a feast would be socially unacceptableand legally punishable by the practice of dowry, Thakur said that the dowry system would directly affect the dignity, equality and rights of women ।

She has also requested the wedding invitation to send a clear message that ‘dowry-free marriage, taking and giving dowry is a social and legal crime’.
