Economic census begins across the country from today

Kathmandu. The second economic census is taking place across the country from today. According to the National Statistics Office, enumerators and necessary supervisors have already reached the concerned areas across the country.

As per the schedule, the on-site data collection would be completed by the third week of June. Around five thousand human resources have been mobilized for the census.

The Ministry of Finance has urged all to contribute to the task as data related to the overall industrial and economic sector of the country would be collected. The census will compile basic details of 18 sectors of economic sector including industry, business, service sector, cooperatives and private sector, number and types of public institutions, investment, employment, production and service delivery.

The census will be carried out for the census of large ÷and small business establishments, enterprises providing more employment or self-employment, other industries, factories, trade and business, non-governmental organizations, government corporations, government or private schools and hospitals, among others.

The preparatory works of the economic census were completed by mid-March last year. A total of 84 offices have been set up in 77 districts and seven more in the beginning of March. These offices will be operational till mid-July.

The National Economic Census was conducted in 2075 BS. The census revealed that 923,356 enterprises and businesses were in operation across the country.
