The people’s representatives of Siddharthanagar Municipality have demanded the government to bring the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi into operation at the earliest. They urged the federal government to operate the airport while inaugurating the administrative building of Siddharthanagar Municipality in Bhairahawa.
On the occasion, Mayor Istiyak Ahamad Khan underscored the need of bringing the Gautam Buddha International Airport into operation at the earliest. Urging the government to resume the operation of the airport, he expressed the belief that economic activities would be flourished in the country if the airport constructed in the name of Lord Buddha came into operation.
According to him, the development of Lumbini means that the economic activities of the entire country will be dynamic and it will contribute to tourism promotion.
“Regular operation of the airport will not only develop Bhairahawa but it will also contribute to the development of the entire country,” he said. “, he said.
Similarly, Mayor Khan said that there should be no delay in operating the airport. Municipality spokesperson Muktinath Yadav said the operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport has pushed the industrialists and entrepreneurs of the area. He urged the incumbent government to take necessary steps for the operation of the airport. Yadav, who is also the ward chairman of Siddharthanagar Municipality-4, said that the local government would take initiative for the operation of the airport.
