Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Department of Land Management and Archives of the Government of Nepal is making the online mortgage system mandatory at the Land Revenue Offices. This step has been taken to make the service faster, convenient, and free of middlemen, in line with the government’s results-based governance system and the goal of Digital Nepal.

From now on, all the mortgage withholding and redemption of collateral by banks and financial institutions will be conducted through the digital system faceless and in a time-bound manner. According to the circular issued by the department, this provision will be implemented in two phases.

The government has already made the online system mandatory for the banks and financial institutions that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department and have taken permissionfrom the Land Service Center.

Similarly, in the case of other organizations that have not taken permission so far or are in the process, instructions have been given to implement this system from May 1, 2081 after completing the necessary preparations.

This new system will be implemented in all the land revenue offices across the country where the palm system has been implemented, according to the department. It is believed that this will end the hassle of people visiting the Land Revenue Office, increase transparency in the service and maintain good governance.
