CIB statement – ‘Jyoti Pandey was arrested while fleeing’, but the bank sent a rebuttal letter to the financial concern, claiming that ‘the CEO had gone to visit the temple’

Artha Sarokar

Kathmandu. Although the CIB had clearly mentioned that the CEO of Nepal Investment Mega Bank was arrested while fleeing, the bank claimed that its CEO had gone to Sindhuli for temple worship as he was interested in religious works. The bank has also refuted the news published about the arrest of the CEO of the bank by sending two employees to the office of the bank even in the age of email and internet.

The bank has claimed that Pandey was on his way to Chhinnamasta Bhagwati of Saptari and Gadhimai Temple in Bara when the police had seized him. However, there is no explanation as to what was the hurry to visit the temple overnight on the day of the arrest by the CIB.

The bank has also termed the theft of depositors’ money by the bank’s employees at Gaighat branch and Taulihawa branch as the personal malicious act of some of the bank’s employees. The bank has repeatedly dismissed the news about the misconduct of the bank employees and the theft of depositors’ money as misleading.

The bank has also urged the bank to remove the news disseminated with the intention of cautioning the customers not to be careful while keeping money in the bank regarding the theft of the customer’s money. However, the bank has claimed that it has returned the stolen money to the depositors.

The CIB is currently investigating Pandey’s case. The bank has also generalized the serious issue of the accused destroying the evidence during the investigation, saying that all the auction process was done in accordance with the law.

See the bank’s rebuttal letter as follows:

NIMB Khandan

and we say:

1. The CIB statement has already made it clear that Jyoti Prakash Pandey, CEO of Nepal Investment Mega Bank, was arrested from Sindhuli Bus Park while on the run. The CIB is wrong in saying that the CIB has already issued a statement, the bank’s claim cannot be said to be correct. Therefore, it is not believable that he had gone to Sindhuli to visit the temple as claimed by the bank. Moreover, if he had gone to visit the temple, why would the police arrest him? Why did he have to visit the temple on the same day when the news of the bank’s collusion in the case came out in various media when a serious issue like the smart cell case is being discussed all around and the CEO of the company has also been arrested? The bank has not commented on the matter. What was CEO Pandey doing at the bus park that night? is a fact that the news is written. At the time of writing this news, we had called the official of the bank. When the information officer did not pick up the phone, the CIB issued a statement saying that he was arrested while fleeing, Pandey did not even think that Pandey had gone to visit the temple. Therefore, our news cannot be misleading in this regard.

2. The bank has also termed the news that the CEO of Nepal Investment Mega Bank Pandey has left the bank . However, the fact that the bank officials had informed the financial concern that he had left the bank saying that ‘I may not come to the bank immediately’ is definitely in line with the fact that he was arrested by the CIB while fleeing. We had sought the opinion of the information officer of the bank when the matter was made news, but he did not pick up the phone. When he did not pick up the phone, it was natural that the bank’s official opinion did not come. However, the news that Pandey had left the bank was found to be similar to the incident of his arrest. We also asked the source if it was a resignation or if the bank would not come. It is clear that the senior officer of the bank has told us that he has not resigned, he will not come to the bank as soon as possible, he will stay somewhere else. Therefore, this news cannot be said to be as misleading as claimed by the bank.

3. There have been many misdeeds in the bank. People’s money has been stolen everywhere. Even on such a serious matter, the police gave a description of the incident, but the bank did not give its opinion. Not one day, not two days, but many times news came that people’s money was stolen in Nepal Investment Mega Bank. However, the bank refused to speak on such a serious issue. Why? Can a bank with people’s deposits become so irresponsible? Then we said Nepal Investment Mega Bank that does not get tired of mischief. Even now, we say. The bank has described the incident as a personal malfeasance. The depositor has kept the money in Nepal Investment Mega Bank, and after stealing his money, can the bank call this incident personal? Moreover, the bank has taken institutional responsibility and has taken these cases of fraud and theft to the police. And how did it become personal? Not one, not two, but after such incidents have come out repeatedly, we have said {{}{{} after such incidents have come out again and again. But the bank calls such incidents personal, which cannot be accepted. The bank should take full responsibility for this. Moreover, the bank says that we have returned the money by taking responsibility, then the incident is personal, isn’t this a double thing?

4. The CIB was investigating Jyoti Pandey in custody, the court asked him to be released on bail. Leaving him on bail does not mean that he will be cleared. He has been barred from going abroad, he has an obligation to appear for investigation when the CIB asks him to, and in such a situation, should he not be in a situation or risk of of destroying evidence? Of course it is. That’s what we wrote. And can he overshadow such a serious issue as the risk of destroying evidence that everything has been settled legally?

We are clear that Jyoti Pandey, CEO of Nepal Investment Mega Bank, has been accused of selling government property. Police are investigating the matter. The court’s decision to release him on attendance bail does not mean that he has been acquitted, so there is a risk of evidence being destroyed when he returns to work. Pandey may be punished if guilty, he may be acquitted if he is innocent, but is it right to return to the bank in the midst of the risk of destruction of evidence ? Of course not.

Nepal Investment Mega Bank is our country, we are a responsible institution envisioning prosperous banking. Our job is to be careful. What we have done, we will do today and we will continue to do it tomorrow. Instead, we have some suggestions for you, it would be better if you meditated.

1. Customers’ money has been stolen in many branches of the bank. It would have been better if you had informed us before we broke this news and said that the money of other depositors is safe. Please take care of this from now on. We were invited to see how many financial related complaints are there about the misconduct of Nepal Investment Mega Bank. Pay attention to how many complaints there are in the central bank. Other agencies may also be watching. But if we are arrogant about who will touch us, then sorry, we will continue to speak in favor of people’s deposit security.

2. Hire an information officer to handle at least media questions. A banker suffers a heart attack after being intimidated and tortured by the boss of the bank, but the bank does not speak. The deputy CEO of the bank is accused of misbehaving with the customer, the bank does not speak. Moreover, he did not say anything this time. Talk about this too. Take care of the bad credit situation, support government investigations. If you have to visit the temple, you have a holiday for 3-4 days from time to time, don’t you do it at that time?

3. We wish Nepal Investment Mega Bank all the best. We have openly praised some of your good work. We are aware of your repeated mischief and will continue to do so. You should be free from the illusion that the media, which is willing to misinterpret the court order, can write only what it says, and others are wrong.

In some news, there is a refutation of what is it, this time the refutation of Nepal Investment Mega Bank also came the same. By the way, respecting your right to publish a rebuttal, we published it. Moreover, even if it was only a formal publication, we made a video and said that this is what the bank said. If there are more rebuttals, we will say it again. But sorry sir, you don’t speak up, sending many claims in the name of refutation and ordering our news to be removed, this is not right. We insist that our news is factual. There is a legal provision that the published news cannot be removed, there is a 4-day holiday from May 28, the banker uncle should read it at leisure. And really, whether it is the information officer or not, or the media’s phone, responding. That is, keep a person who faces the media, or else write true news, do not indirectly intimidate or threaten. We are constantly following up on the wrongdoings of Nepal Investment Mega Bank.

And really, in this age of email, what waste have you done by sending two employees and sending hard copies? The rebuttal can be sent directly to our email. Proper utilization of manpower is also your responsibility, isn’t it?
