Development works have become costlier due to lack of timely works: Energy Minister

Kathmandu.Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has said that the cost of the projects has increased unnaturally due to the delay in development works. Minister Shrestha said this while speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee.

He also said that due to the tendency of not completing the work on time, development is not only expensive, but the relevance of the investment has been questioned. 

Shrestha said that the price at which the work should have been done earlier was not the same, so now we have to go to for .Minister Shrestha said that if the private sector’s investment in the hydropower sector continues to become expensive like this, a big debate will be created whether the investment is relevant or irrelevant. 

He also pointed out the complexities involved in the public procurement process and contract management and said that the situation of cancellation of contracts and stoppage of work in the middle has created confusion. 

Such holes should be closed after discussing condensed after the budget, he said. Shrestha said that such instability has had a negative impact on the morale of the private sector and the FDI sector.
