Dozer in slum slum: ‘Dasha’ for those who do nothing, ‘Dashain’ for kawadi collectors! (Photos)

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley has turned into a state of ruin after the government evicted people encroaching on government land and used bulldozers in their homes. The people living in these places have been kept in the holding center.

There is now a rush of scrap collectors in the ruins. For them, the deserted slum has become a source of income. After the removal of the squatters’ settlement in Banshighat area of Teku last Saturday, the movement of kawadi collectors has increased there as well.

Scrap traders have been reaching the houses since early morning to collect corrugated sheets, iron and other metallic materials. See the rest of the image:
