Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. KATHMANDU: Swarnim Wagle has said that the government will take all possible measures to take Nepal out of the money laundering grey list (Jurisdictions Under Enhanced Monitoring).
Minister Khatiwada said this during a discussion on the action plan of the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) under the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) held at the Finance Ministry in coordination with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today.
Finance Minister Dr. Wagle said that Nepal would be freed from the grey-list by using all its capacity. He said that the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister was making efforts to expedite development by establishing good governance. According to him, the people have started feeling the progress made in the field of good governance after the formation of the new government.
Finance Minister Dr. Wagle said that the government bodies concerned are taking immediate and regular works to get out of the grey list and they are continuously evaluating. According to him, Nepal’s position in the gray-list indicators has improved compared to the last review period.
David Shannon, Deputy Executive Secretary of the APG, said that there is still a lot of work to be done to get Nepal out of the grey-list. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Nepal Rastra Bank and other concerned bodies.
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) had placed Nepal in the grey list for two years in March 2081. Nepal has committed to a 15-point reform action plan to get out of the list and is working accordingly.
