Govt plans to give grants to political parties

Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal plans to provide government grants to build a strong foundation of transparency and accountability in the political system.

Presenting the annual budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 in the joint meeting of the federal parliament today, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said that a political debate would be held on this issue to institutionalize healthy democratic competition.

He also said that an extensive political debate would be held on the issue of providing government grants to the nationally recognized political parties on the basis of the votes received in the last general election and arrangements would be made for the Auditor General to audit the possible grants.
