Monasteries, temples demolished on Buddha Jayanti

Kathmandu. On the day of Buddha Jayanti, the Sangay Choiling Monastery in Balkhu and the Pathibhara Devi temple inside the squatters’ settlement were demolished with the help of dozers. The Sange Choiling Monastery registered on October 27, 2021 was demolished on Friday, April 24, the full moon day of Baisakh Shukla Purnima.

Locals had urged not to demolish the Buddha Jayanti at least. Both the monastery and the temple were demolished in course of removing structures constructed by encroaching on public land.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) had taken out the Buddha statues and other important materials before operating the bulldozer. View the rest of the image:
