Pokhara landless squatters in fear after bulldozer operation in Kathmandu, insist on not leaving their settlement until management is done (Photos)

Kathmandu. The landless squatters of Pokhara are also terrified after the bulldozer startedrunning in the squatters’ settlements in Kathmandu. Pokhara—Pokhara Metropolitan City has given a 35-day ultimatum to vacate the structures constructed by encroaching upon government and public land. The notice was issued on April 18 as per the decision of the executive meeting of the metropolis held on April 17.

Locals of Pokhara Metropolitan City-9, which has around 475 households, have taken a stand not to vacate the place without alternative arrangements.They have demanded that only be used after management.

Organizing a press conference in Pokhara on Sunday, the recently formed ‘Landless and Unsystematic Concerned Struggle Committee, District Committee Kaski said that they were ready to vacate the settlements only if the government properly rehabilitated them.

The committee has also made public the programs of the movement. A memorandum would be submitted to the Prime Minister through the District Administration Office on May 4 and a corner meeting would be heldat Prithvi Chowk on the same day. However, they are clear that they will not vacate the place under any circumstances until an alternative arrangement is made.
