Kathmandu. Youths waiting to go to South Korea after completing the language test and necessary process under the Employment Permit System (EPS) staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Monday (May 24).
Chanting slogans such as “Send those who have passed the pass to South Korea” and “Ensure their right to employment”, the demonstrators demanded that the government make arrangements to send them to South Korea at the earliest.
Thousands of Nepali youths have been waiting to go to Korea for a long time even after passing the EPS exam. Although they are on the roster from Korean employers, many youths have not been able to go to Korea due to lack of labour contract, limited labour quota, process delay, impact of COVID-19 pandemic and administrative complexities seen in Nepal-Korea labour supply process.
Participants said they had spent years to pass language tests, invested a large sum of money in training and paperwork, but could not go to Korea for work. They have demanded that the government make the process transparent, increase the labour quota and make arrangements for sending it as soon as possible. See the rest of the image:
