Kathmandu.Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Bi raj Bhakta Shrestha has directed the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to expedite the process of electricity dues collection by keeping it in its daily agenda.
In a separate meeting of the Board of Directors of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Deputy Executive Directors of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Minister Shrestha directed the concerned authorities to clear the arrears of electricity that have been stuck for a long time and the amount is huge.
‘There is no need to wait for the instructions from the minister to recover the arrears. In the past, many studies, investigations, and decisions have been made. There is no need for further decision. “We should focus on mobilizing our mechanism rather than waiting for the ministry’s directive to recover dues,” he said. ’
Minister Shrestha also said that the dues of dedicated feeder and trunk line as well as internet service provider, industrial area, street lights and other sectors should be recovered.
He said that the NRA would not hesitate to recover the dues in the areas other than those that are in the legal process.According to the 63rd report of the Auditor General, the arrears of electricity tariff stood at Rs 50.01 billion.
