Kathmandu. BANKE: Schools at Kohalpur municipality in Banke district have been closed for three days from today due to scorching heat. The Kohalpur municipality has decided to give a holiday in institutional and community schools in view of the increasing heat in the districts of Tarai including Banke in recent days, said Rabilal Mijar, chief of the education and sports section of the municipality.

“If the heat decreases due to rain, we will be closed for only three days, otherwise we can get leave for two more days,” he said. The municipality had taken the decision citing that high temperature and hot air could adversely affect the health of students.

According to Mijar, chief of the education and sports section of Kohalpur municipality, the regular classes have been suspended in 33 community schools and 50 institutional schools in the municipality for three days from June 9 to June 10.

According to him, the safety of the students was given priority as the weather situation was not likely to improve immediately and the temperature was continuously rising. According to the Office of Hydrology and Meteorology, Kohalpur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.4 degrees today.

Senior Divisional Hydrologist Ram Prasad Awasthi said the maximum temperature was recorded in Nepalgunj and 38.8 in Khajura.
