Kathmandu. The term ‘deep and ‘ ‘fa ke’ were used excessively in the elections held on March 4. This fact has been mentioned in the report ‘ ‘Use and Impact of Digital Space in Nepal Election 2026′ released by Digital Rights Nepal (DRN).
The report states that political parties and candidates have given more priority to social media, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital propaganda in their election campaigns.
The report shows that the government and regulators have not been able to control the proliferation of content created from AI, {{}, , deep fakes videos and digital misleading propaganda in the last election.
Similarly, the report has also questioned the transparency of the election as there is not enough information about the action taken against it and the results of the ‘fake’ content circulated on social media during the election. The report also suggested that effective coordination with social media companies and monitoring of digital campaigns should be strengthened.
Similarly, the use of traditional publicity materials such as posters and banners decreased and was replaced by the creation of commercial content, social media management, micro-targeting, YouTube, the report said. Not only that, but the report also revealed that 54 percent of the misleading information identified during the election period was created by AI.
