In early June, Japan called for strengthening the responsibility of social media operators by restricting stricter age verification and restricting certain features in a list of proposed measures to protect underage social media users, Kyodo News reported.

Australia imposed a blanket ban on social media for children under 16 last year, while Spain and Denmark are also considering the move.
