Government talks team and Microfinance Victims’ Struggle Committee resume talks today

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The talks team formed by the Ministry of Finance and the Microfinance Victims’ Struggle Committee are holding talks again on Friday. Thursday’s talks were positive and resolved.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle had formed a committee to hold talks with the agitating microfinance victims. Issuing a ministerial decision on Thursday, he formed a team under the coordination of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Mahesh Acharya.

The other members of the committee are Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Law Binod Kumar Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Suresh Panthi and Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Ramu Poudel. Under-secretary at the Ministry of Finance Bolraj Acharya is the member secretary of the talk committee.

The microfinance victims have been expressing their dissatisfaction with various demands. Among the demands put forth by them are stopping the auction of collateral and legal proceedings, restructuring of microfinance institutions, ending the group loan system, consolidating and re-tabulating the loans taken by a single person from different microfinance companies.
