Kathmandu. During the meeting, Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Spanish Chamber of Commerce discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, promote trade and investment and expand business exchanges between the private sector.

During the meeting with the Director General of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce Enmaculada Riera e Reyney at the Chamber Building in Kathmandu on Monday, both sides discussed on further strengthening institutional relations and expanding economic cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two Chambers by either 2026 or early 2027, noting that Nepal’s growing political stability and strategic geographical situation had created favourable conditions for the expansion of trade and investment between India and China.

As part of the collaboration, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce is preparing to send a business delegation of eight to nine Spanish companies to Nepal in February-March 2027. During the visit, a business forum will be organized to expand direct business relations between the Spanish and Nepalese entrepreneurs and to explore new investment opportunities.

The exchange of views on making government-to-government cooperation effective for the promotion of trade and investment, easing the business visa process, encouraging high-level visits and utilizing the potential opportunities that Nepal could get from the ongoing trade talks between the EU and India were exchanged.

Both sides agreed to promote renewable energy, hydropower, solar and wind energy, water management, smart cities, transport infrastructure, tourism and hospitality, agriculture and food processing as the priority areas of cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the potential of export of orthodox tea, organic coffee, large cardamom, herbs and aromatic plants, essential oils, pashmina, handmade carpet, handmade paper, silver jewelry, organic honey and bamboo products. Spain could share its experience and technology with Nepal in the fields of renewable energy, irrigation, agricultural equipment, health equipment, water treatment and tourism management.

Both NCEMs have actively participated in international trade fairs in Madrid, Barcelona and Kathmandu for the promotion of bilateral trade as well as expansion of business relations through digital trade and e-commerce.

The meeting also discussed that Spanish companies with experience in South Asia could be a suitable partner in Nepal’s infrastructure development, clean energy and sustainable investment projects.

At the end of the meeting, the representatives of both Chambers expressed confidence that Nepal-Spain trade and investment could be significantly expanded in the coming years by strengthening institutional cooperation, regular business visits and partnership between the private sector.
