Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal has secured a total of 57 points in the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Shanghai from July 10 to July 20.

Among the participants, Prasidda Thapa of Sankhuwasabha, Ayam Acharya of Lalitpur and Nishan Khatri of Dhading received an honorable mention each.

Mission Joshi of Bardiya, Yugantar Kalakheti of Morang and Arij Pokhrel of Pokhara secured the 84th position by surpassing 33 out of 117 countries with the overall score of Mission Joshi of Bardiya, said Hari Prapanna Kandel, president of the organization and country leader.

This is the 10th Nepali participation from the 2017 Brazil Olympiad. A total of 666 students from 117 countries including Nepal participated in the competition. According to Chhabi Dhungana, General Secretary of Mathematical Association of Nepal, more than 2,500 competitive students were selected through district, province and central phase selection examination and more than six months of training under the Olympiad Programme Operation Procedure-2082 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Government of Nepal. ।

Dhungana said that the students will be provided with training of national and international level on a continuous basis and they can be upgraded if the support from the government bodies increases in such competitions.

Before arriving in Shanghai, the team participated in a 21-day closed training involving more than 70 countries. According to national coach Er. Prajit Adhikari, the team has been prepared for the best result in the 67th Mathematics Olympiad. The program was co-led by Treasurer Narayan Poudel.
