Chitwan. The price of eggs, which has fallen due to the impact of bird flu, has started increasing. The price has started to rise due to the decrease in production and the demand has increased.

Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association determines the market price by taking the price of big farms. According to the association, the price of eggs has gone up from Rs 450 to Rs 500 per crate of eggs. Medium eggs have reached Rs 420 to Rs 470. The price of a small egg has reached Rs 415. The price has increased by Rs 50 per crate.

Central president of Nepal Layers Poultry Owners Association Binod Pokharel said egg price has increased after the demand for eggs went up. According to him, around 45 lakh eggs were produced on a daily basis, which has come down to around 28 lakh due to bird flu.

At the end of May, a crate of eggs (30 eggs) was sold for Rs 550, which had come down to Rs 450. The cost of a crate of egg is Rs 573.60. It costs Rs 19.12 per piece. According to Pokharel, the price of eggs has increased with the increase in consumption.

Despite the increase in prices, farmers have not been able to get the required price. Pokharel said that the farmers are hopeful that they will get the required price soon. Stating that farmers have suffered huge losses due to bird flu, he said the state should provide relief to the affected farmers.
