Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has expressed serious concern over the remark that the five-star Radisson Hotel had high stock of cooking gas. The NCC has said that the publication of incomplete or irrelevant information affecting the commercial reputation of the hotel is not positive for the private sector and the tourism industry as a whole.

A monitoring team conducted recently under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) showed that the hotel had high stock. Reacting to this, the NCC clarified that it is natural that around 50 to 60 LPG cylinders are consumed daily in five-star hotels.

According to the Chamber, the stock of around 200 LPG cylinders in the hotel is not unusual considering the size of the hotel’s operation and daily consumption. According to the Chamber, it would not be appropriate to draw conclusions on the basis of only the stock required for commercial use and linking it to unnatural or illegal activities.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has made it clear that it will not support artificial scarcity, illegal transactions and any activities against the law. However, the Chamber has stated that all sides concerned should be sensitive as exaggerated publicity to discourage legitimate businesses can have a negative impact on the investment climate.

The NCC has also stressed that the bodies concerned should seek solution by holding necessary dialogue and coordination with the entrepreneurs and representatives of the private sector in case of supply, regulation or other problems related to other industries and businesses including hotel and tourism business.

The chamber has pointed out the need to create an environment that facilitates legitimate investment and business operations while maintaining the necessary regulation in the business. Fact-based information, responsible expression and dialogue among stakeholders are the only means of ensuring trust, prestige and sustainable development of the tourism and hospitality sector.
