Kathmandu. The cases of divorce have increased in Tanahun district with the expansion of economic self-reliance, social awareness and personal freedom.

Tanahun District Court registrar Nanda Prasad Acharya said education, employment and economic self-reliance have increased the tendency of women to seek legal means for their rights.

He believes that the main reason for divorce is the expansion of social consciousness, economic self-reliance and understanding of personal freedom.

Of the 2,456 cases filed at the Tanahun District Court in the last fiscal year, 952 were divorce cases. The court has disposed of 810 cases.

In the fiscal year 2082/83, 287 cases of share were registered and 179 were settled.
