Kathmandu. Historical play ‘Bir Ganeshman’ is going to be staged at Sarvanam Theatre, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu from August 30 to September 30. The play, which is based on the life, struggle, sacrifice, courage and integrity of Ganesh Man Singh, a leading and prestigious stage group of Nepal, has been conceptualized, adapted and directed by senior theatre artist Ashesh Malla.

According to director Malla, ‘Veer Ganeshman’ is not only a drama based on the life of a historical personality but also a story of loyalty, honesty, sacrifice and dedication towards the country. Stating that he is performing such realistic drama for the first time in his five-decade long drama journey, he said that this performance is different from his regular practice of playing with imagery and symbols. According to Malla, he directed the play as an attempt to convey the third dimension of a sincere, honest and virtuous warrior to the audience.

The drama portrays Ganeshman Singh’s struggle against the autocratic Rana regime, his life in Bhadragol jail and his courageous escape by crossing the 6 feet high prison wall. The play has tried to bring alive the sacrifice, courage and unwavering dedication of Ganeshman Singh who fought relentlessly for the establishment of democracy by ignoring the death penalty. Similarly, the historical incident of rejecting the post of Prime Minister after the success of the people’s movement of 2046 BS has been presented as an important aspect of the drama. This play will expose the political philosophy of Iron Man Ganesh Man Singh, who always gave priority to the rights and freedom of the country and people above personal interests, family, party, position and power.

S., Sarwanam has been making significant contributions to the development, promotion and preservation of Nepali theater. This organization, which has been raising voice against the then Panchayat system and autocracy through theatrical art, has also played a historical role in raising social and political awareness.

Sarwanam has been organizing national and international drama festivals and regularly staging plays, workshops and training to promote the new generation of theater artists. Through ‘Bir Ganeshman’, Sarwanam has tried to remind the values of country, people, freedom and integrity by taking the important chapter of Nepali history to the new generation.
