NRB’s inspection team says cooperatives have been paying commission to those who bring in savings.

Kathmandu. It has been found that the cooperatives have been paying commission to their employees in the collection of savings . During the inspection conducted by the team of the bank , it was found that the cooperatives were giving commission to the employees and members to attract savings.

According to one of the members who participated in the inspection, the cooperative gives a commission of up to 6-7 percent of the savings amount to the employees who bring savings.

This increases the cost of the cooperative. At present, cooperatives are paying interest ranging from 11 to 12 percent on savings. Although the interest rate on deposits is up to 12 percent,the cooperatives cannot charge more than 13 percent interest on loans. This is also the reason why the cooperatives are not sustainable and the risk of sinking has been pointed out.
