Kathmandu. In view of the possible heavy rainfall and the risk of floods and landslides in Kavrepalanchowk, it has been decided to stop the vehicular movement on the Kavrepalanchowk section of the BP Highway during the night for four days.

A meeting of the Monsoon Response Command Post Kavrepalanchowk held on September 23 decided to ban vehicular movement along the Kavre section of the BP Highway from 5:00 am to 5:00 am from September 22 to 5:00 am, according to Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari.

According to him, the decision to stop vehicular movement has been made in the context of the weather forecast for heavy rainfall from Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24.

The meeting has made arrangements for the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchowk to take necessary decision if there is a need to stop the operation of vehicles during the day after assessing the situation of rain and floods. The official said that it has been decided to request the Chief District Officers of Sindhuli and Bhaktapur to facilitate the implementation of the decision.

The meeting also decided to make the dissemination of early information about possible floods and landslides to the people living on the banks of the river and at risk of landslides and to make the dissemination of prior information through the local media effective. It has been decided to request the Kavrepalanchowk chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists to facilitate the same.

Similarly, the meeting also directed the Nepal Army’s Shreemehar Battalion, District Police Office Kavrepalanchowk and Armed Police Force Nepal No. 15 Battalion Headquarters to keep rescue teams on standby at different places. The meeting also decided to make the necessary coordination and rescue management effective by being in constant touch with the local disaster management committee.

The administration has urged the people who are at risk of possible disaster to be aware of early warning and not to travel to risky areas except in necessary situations.
