Bailey Bridge to be installed at Vetrawati

Artha Sarokar

Kathmandu. The installation of a bailey bridge over the Falakhu River at Vetrawati, which connects Nuwakot and Rasuwa, has started after the flood in the Trishuli River via Bhotekoshi caused damage. The process of bringing the necessary materials for this purpose is underway and the work of connecting the bridge is expected to be started from this Wednesday and it is targeted to bring it into operation before Dashain.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Chiranjivi Chaulagain of the Nepal Army, the necessary materials for the bridge are being brought from Baireni and Bara of Dhading where the Nepal Army has stockpiled. All the materials will arrive in Vetrawati by today. He informed that a team of 55 members of the Nepal Army will start installing the bailey bridge from Wednesday.

Although it usually takes three days to install the bridge, the height of the old ‘jeep’ (bridge structure) has been increased by two meters as it is low. Colonel Chaulagain said that the target is to bring the bridge into operation till Phulpati of Dashain as it will take some time to dry the additional structure.

Earlier, the jeep of the bridge at Vetravati was buried by the floods of the Bhotekoshi. The height of the old structure has been increased by two meters to install a new acrobridge at the same place. The crowbridge will be 74 meters long and 5.5 meters wide. The load bearing capacity of the bridge will be 60 tons.

With the access of the road to Betarawati, it has become easier to transport the necessary materials for the construction of the bridge and to proceed with the construction work. The construction work has gained momentum after the Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi Road Project Office opened the road access. Before the road was reached, the Nepal Army had reached the place through an alternative route and completed the necessary field study (recki) and increasing the height of the jeep for the construction of the bridge.

The Agitar-Vetrawati road section, which was damaged by the Bhotekoshi floods, has come into operation from this Saturday. It is expected that the construction of the bridge at Vetrawati is completed and brought into operation before the Dashain festival. It will also restore the Nuwakot-Rasuwa road link, which was blocked due to floods. The daily life of Rasuwa has been affected due to the floods due to the ineffective road network.
