Artha Sarokar

Kathmandu. The sugarcane farmers of Kailali and Bardiya will be cleared within the next few days. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has said that it is preparing to send the amount to the farmers’ accounts as soon as possible after completing the technical process.

In a meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee held on Thursday, the secretary of the ministry, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra said that the ministry has given high priority to the payment of farmers.

He admitted that the farmers’ complaints about the delay in payment were justified and clarified that due to administrative and technical processes, the delay in the payment was due to June. Mishra also said that efforts are being made to complete the payment process as early as possible.

Sugarcane farmers have been repeatedly reminding for the arrears for a long time. Earlier, the ministry had taken a decision for payment but the farmers were hit by the sluggishness in the implementation side. Secretary Mishra, however, urged the farmers to be assured and said that the ministry is continuously following up .

Even though the government officials have been assuring time and again that there will be no delay in the payment process, the situation of farmers at the field level continues. Now, as the ministry has said, whether the payment will be made within one or two days will depend on the excitement of the upcoming Dashain festival of the farmers.
