Inflation hits Japan: Food prices to rise by more than 3,000 in October

. The price of food and beverages in Japan will increase by more than 3,153 from October. The increase in the price of raw materials and the weak Japanese yen has forced manufacturers to pass the cost on to consumers.

According to the latest data released by the bank , the price of 4,965 items increased in September.

The increase in the price of crude oil and naphtha due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has increased the cost of packaging materials, which has directly affected the market price of food items.

This year’s statistics show that the prices of 20,187 food and beverages have increased or are in the process of increasing so far in 2026. For the second year in a row, the number of items surpassed 20,000, illustrating the impact on the livelihood of Japanese consumers.

Beverages are at the top of the list of price increases in October, which includes 1,399 types of goods. Similarly, the prices of 820 types of spices and 668 types of processed foods are also expected to increase. Not only food and beverages, gas and electricity tariffs are also expected to increase across Japan in October.
