Kathmandu. Birgunj Metropolitan City has directed schools to declare public holidays on Saturdays and Sundays.

Birgunj Metropolitan City (KMC) has directed all the community and institutional schools in the metropolis to declare public holidays on Saturday and Sunday every week after receiving complaints that some institutional schools were running classes even on Sundays.

Chief of the Educational Administration Division at KMC, Ananda Lamichhane, said that the KMC issued a two-day holiday after it came to the notice that some institutional schools in KMC have started teaching and learning activities on Sundays as well after they were asked by the local levels to implement the ministerial decision of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Issuing a circular as per the decision of the Municipal Education Committee on September 18, the Division has urged all schools to maintain uniformity in the operation of the school.

According to the ministerial-level decision of the Ministry of Education and Sports, the schools should make necessary arrangements in such a way that the teaching time and annual working hours of the students do not decrease while giving two holidays on Saturday and Sunday. ‘
