Govt pledges to increase 8 percent budget to health in 5 years, free treatment to burn victims

Kathmandu. The government has committed to increase the budget share of health sector to 8 per cent by 2088 BS. The government has set a national commitment to increase the budget to 8 percent of the budget to the health sector within five years. According to the standards of the World Health Organization, 10 percent of the total budget should be allocated to the health sector.

The commitment states that the health insurance program will be expanded in a more robust model with quality and accessibility to every citizen. A “One Citizen, One Digital Health Profile” would be implemented and social security programmes would be integrated into the dispersed health facilities and subsidies.

Similarly, integrated health services would be ensured by establishing a state-of-the-art disability rehabilitation specialized resource centre in each province.

Free treatment for burn victims

The government has pledged to provide free and quality treatment and mental health services to the victims of burns.

The commitment states that basic health services would be provided to the doorsteps of senior citizens and people with disabilities, an integrated model would be implemented by preparing minimum standards for basic health for the improvement of the overall health system, health facilities would be restructured at the federal, provincial and local levels and the classification and quality of health workers, equipment, buildings and services would be determined. Access to health services will be given special priority in rural and remote areas.

Doctor in Primary Health Center

As per the commitment, at least one medical graduate (MDPG doctor, nurse, laboratory and pharmacy) will be provided at the primary health care center.

Likewise, a policy of providing insurance or free treatment to the poor, labourers, farmers and people with disabilities and free health service to those compulsory labour would be implemented.

It is stated that the mega campaign ‘I am healthy, my family is healthy’ would be launched by creating a situation to prevent the disease, promoting healthy climate, environment and active lifestyle.

Ayurveda, naturopathy and yoga meditation would be combined in health services, wellness zones and yoga labs would be set up in major tourist areas and yoga, meditation and yoga tourism would be included in the curriculum.

The commitments will be enshrined in the annual policy, programme, budget and reform agenda for the fiscal year 2083÷84 and beyond.
