Kathmandu. Bhuwani Poudel of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-7, Bagar in Myagdi district has become self-employed and self-reliant by rearing goats leaving his job at a government office. Poudel, who worked as an assistant employee at the Agriculture Development Office in Beni for 10 years, got success from the Bagar Agriculture and Livestock Multipurpose Farm.
After returning from foreign employment in the Gulf country for five years, he worked as an assistant at the Agriculture Development Office in Beni for 11 years from 2066 BS. “After federalism, I left my job and started rearing goats,” he said. The farm, which started with nine farms, now has more than 60 goats. ’
Poudel, who earns up to Rs 500,000 by selling 35 to 40 goats annually, said that he has been able to educate his three children in the district headquarters Beni and manage his household chores. Apart from goats, goats are also sold.
There is no problem in the market as customers come to their homes in search of goats and goats. Along with goat rearing, Poudel has also been involved in orange and vegetable farming commercially. Out of 100 plants, 40 orange plants have started yielding. He has expanded his farming by planting one hundred more orange saplings.
Poudel shared his experience that he was satisfied with farming and goat rearing as compared to foreign employment and contract job. Poudel, who has been rearing goats of Jamuna Pari breed by making a well-managed farm, has also received the help of a goat of advanced Boer breed.
Poudel has expected support from the government bodies for the expansion of the farm. Poudel, who has been rearing goats based on pastures in the vicinity of his house, has also cultivated multi-year basket grass.
For the protection of goats, he has kept two dogs including one Bhote breed with big hair. At night, the dog that roams around the coop provides protection to the goats in the forest for grazing. Farmer Poudel said that the dog, which barks and informs about the presence of wild animals, has helped save the goats from attack. Bhuwani’s wife Bhagwati also helps him in goat farming. -rasas
