BYD’s ‘mischief’ at northern checkpoint: Hundreds of vehicles seized by Armed Police Force

Kathmandu. Hundreds of BYD electric vehicles (EV) imported through the northern border point have been seized. The Armed Police Force (APF) has impounded 750vehicles ( being brought from Mustang to Kaski from Mustang. 

According to an official of the Armed Police Force, they were arrested on the basis of information that the documents related to the import of vehicles and customs documents did not match. 

According to the official, most of the vehicles seized are of BYD, and they do not have the number plates of .The official said that the seized vehicles have been sent to check the customs process. 

Initial BYD Vehicles Budget for the next fiscal year EV is suspected to have been brought in haste after receiving information about the change in tax rates. It was revealed that BY D had inspected hundreds of vehicles before the budget was informed about the change in tax rates. 

So much so that after receiving information about the change in tax rates, BYD had to issue a declaration just before the budget. Accordingly, Cimex {{} Inc Pvt. Ltd., the authorized dealer of of BYD from Rasuwa Customs Office, had also paid tax by making a certificate }} of 187 vehicles. However, only 20-30 vehicles that had cleared the customs before the budget was cleared. The rest of the vehicles had not passed customs till June 18. 

After that, the security mechanism along with the Department of Customs increased surveillance. In the meantime, the APF has seized hundreds of vehicles of BYD. It is suspected that these vehicles may havepassed customs checks on paper before the budget. Currently, the Department of Customs is also studying the matter.
