Education budget of Rs 218 billion, more than 69 percent allocated to local level

Kathmandu. Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that a budget of Rs 218.30 billion has been allocated for the education and sports sector for the coming fiscal year 2083/ 84. 

Responding to the queries raised in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Pokharel said that the budget was 10.28 per cent of the total national budget of Rs 2.124 trillion.

According to him, the budget of the education sector has decreased by 0.47 by 0.47{{} in terms of amount compared to the current fiscal year.He said that this would make it clear that the education sector was in the priority of the government. 

‘Total national budget for the financial year 2083/84 21 Budget 24 Billion Out of 34.44 million, 2 Budget 18 Billion 305 million has been allocated. Yes. In this sense, this budget is 0.47 percent less than the current fiscal year, but in terms of results, the proposed budget is 7 billion compared to the current fiscal year. This budget shows that the education sector is the priority of the government. ” he said. 

Minister Pokharel said that out of the total budget for the education and sports sector, the financial amount 69.07 percent has been transferred to the local level.

He said that a large part of the budget has been sent to the local level as most of the programs related to school education are implemented from the local level.Similarly, 2.12 percent of the budget has been transferred to the provincial level.

He said, “A large part of the budget of the education and sports sector is spent on school education and the implementation of schooleducation activities is from the local level, so the total budget of this sector 69.07 percent has been transferred to the local level.” Similarly, 2.12 percent has been transferred at the provincial level. ’

He said that out of the total budget of the education and sports sector, Rs 150.58 billion or 68.98 percent will be spent on salary and pension.

Minister Pokharel said that the government has also given priority to the construction of school buildings for the development of physical infrastructure.According to him, a budget of Rs 2.75 million to Rs 6.5 million has been allocated for local level schools except 14 districts affected by the Gorkha earthquake and 19 districts of western Nepal including Bajhang, Jajarkot, Rukum West, Manang and Mustang.

Minister Pokharel said that Rs 2.37 billion has been allocated for the construction of physical infrastructure and improvement of the school in partnership with the local level on the basis of the master plan. He said that the government has managed necessary resources for strengthening school infrastructure and enhancing the quality of education.
