Kathmandu. Hundreds of oppressed residents of Susta in Nawalparasi (West) have arrived in Kathmandu to protect their motherland and protect their basic human rights. At the sit-in organized at Maitighar organized by Save Susta Campaign, they raised their voice in unison against the extreme neglect of the state and the oppression they were facing at the border.
The resolute faces of the elderly, women and mothers with red tika on their foreheads and the Nepali national flag in their hands on the hot blacktopped streets of Kathmandu are directly shaking Singha Durbar and the parliament building .
Due to the change in the river flow for a long time, their fertile agricultural land has been encroached upon by the Indian Border Security Force but due to the lack of land ownership certificates by the government of their own country, they have become without security .
The participants of the sit-in program have put forth a three-point demand of from the government. To immediately stop the encroachment on the sovereign land of Nepal and to take an effective diplomatic initiative to delimit in accordance with the spirit of the Sugauli Treaty, to provide citizenship of Nepalese descent to the Susta people immediately and without any conditions, and thirdly, They have demanded that the land being used and protected for generations be measured and distributed the land ownership certificates immediately.
Many Kathmanduites have expressed solidarity with the residents of Kathmandu with tears and anger. The cries of their mothers holding placards that read “No mercy, give justice” and the self-esteem of the Susta youths holding a board that reads “We cultivate, we own it”has forced the entire Nepal to think about the security of the border and its citizens.
