Kathmandu. The first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is estimated to have resulted in transaction of over Rs 500 million in Chitwan and surrounding areas.
Hotels, restaurants and tourist areas of the district were bustling with delegates, observers and well-wishers from all over the country for about a week. The general convention that was inaugurated last Sunday is concluding today. Hotels were filled with delegates and observers from Saturday.
According to Rajan Gautam, coordinator of the Accommodation and Food Management Sub-Committee, business worth more than Rs 500 million has been done in a week. Gautam, who is also the former president of the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that around Rs 200 million was spent by delegates, observers and well-wishers. According to him, up to 20,000 people stayed in Chitwan in a single day.
Gautam said that a large number of RSP supporters had come to the district the day after the inauguration of the general convention. Stating that it has been gradually decreasing in other days, he said that Bharatpur has been directly benefited by this.
He said that the representatives stayed at the hotels of the eastern region including Sauraha and the hotel in Gaindakot of Nawalparasi. The accommodation was to be arranged by the representatives themselves and food was arranged for four days by the party. The delegates ate their own food before and after. Stating that the party alone spends more than four crore rupees, he said that all the sectors here have been active for a week.
Anil Thapa, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan, said that around 2,200 small and big vehicles have entered the country from outside. Senior vice-president of the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rajendra Oli, said the district was in a state of activity for almost a week. He said that while hotels and restaurants are full, it will make other sectors vibrant.
He said that agricultural products such as dairy products, fish, meat, eggs and fruits were consumed well. “It has had a positive impact on the economic cycle of Bharatpur,” he said. ‘
Om Pandey, president of the Regional Hotel Association Chitwan, said that the hotels of Bharatpur have received good business. After that, the business took place in Sauraha and other areas, he said. According to him, the leaders and cadres of the RSP who came to the district for the first time got the opportunity to see the tourist destinations.
