SC releases Krishna Bahadur Mahara on bail of one lakh

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has ordered the release of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on bail. The Special Court has ordered Mahara to be released on bail of one lakh rupees.

A division bench of Chairman of the Special Court Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and member Bidur Koirala on the charge of smuggling gold by concealing it in an electronic cigarette (vape) was issued by the apex court.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on April 9, 2005 had filed a corruption case against former Speaker Mahara, his son Rahul and 29 others, on the charge of assisting in gold smuggling from the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office.
