69 percent of the total budget in the Ministry of Education and Sports is in salary and pension.

Kathmandu. The government has proposed a budget of Rs 218.30 billion for the education and sports sector for the coming fiscal year 2083/84. This is 10.28 per cent of the total national budget for the coming fiscal year (21 trillion 24.34 billion

In a meeting of the National Assembly, Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said that although the budget was 0.0.47 percent less than the current fiscal year, the result was about Rs 7 billion more than the previous year.

A large chunk of the total budget allocated for education and sports (68.98 per cent (Rs 150.58 billion 59.59 million 10,000 (Rs 150 billion 58 crore 59 lakh 10,000 will be spent on the salary of teachers and employees and pension of retired teachers. 

Out of the 62.89 billion allocated for the federal level, 42.13 percent (26 billion 50 crore) has been allocated only for teachers’ pension. Minister Pokharel said that the remaining 57.87 percent of the budget will be implemented under 19 sub-headings. According to him, the largest chunk of the budget has been transferred to the local level. According to him, 69.07 percent of the total budget will be spent at the local level, 2.12 percent will be spent at the provincial level and 28.81 percent will be spent by various bodies at the federal level.

Similarly, the budget allocated for school education is 69. 49 per cent , 11.04 per cent per cent for higher education, 15.17 per cent per cent for management, technical and vocational education at 2.56 per cent and per cent and 1.7 7 per cent for sports.Minister Pokharel said that out of the total allocation of Rs 151.69 billion for school education, only Rs 10.45 billion has been allocated for physical infrastructure.
