Kathmandu. The Dairy Development Corporation (DD C) has processed and marketed about 60 million liters of milk with a turnover of around Rs 4 billion in the fiscal year 2082/83. The corporation has admitted that it could not make timely payment to the farmers due to huge stock of butter and milk powder last year due to excessive production of milk, and now the period for payment of dues has been reduced from the month of 6/7 to two to three months.
DDC Spokesperson Nilkantha Gautam said that there was a problem in cash flow due to the collection of moremilk than expected during the flush season last year.According to him, payment to the farmers has been delayed as it took time for the products to be sold in the market.
‘We have taken a policy that no one will allow the milk of the farmers to be wasted. Therefore, when there is excess production, milk should be made into powder and butter and kept in the store. “If the product is not sold for at least six months, it will affect the cash flow and delay the payment to the farmers,” he said. ’
Spokesperson Gautam said that the payment of farmers’ dues is becoming easier as the stock is being sold gradually.“Previously, 6/7 months of payment was due. Now that situation has improved to the range of 2/3 months. “, he said.
