Kathmandu. More than 1,002 people have lost their lives in the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa so far. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs, 1,252 people have lost their lives due to floods till 12 noon on Thursday.

According to the NRA, the highest number of 35 5 people have died in Chitwan due to floods. In which only some human organs have been found.

Similarly, 218 bodies were recovered in Nawalparasi East, 208 in Nawalparasi West, 177 in Nuwakot, 127 in Rasuwa, 69 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahun. Of the bodies recovered , only 95 have been identified and handed over to their relatives so far, according to the NRA.

The security personnel have rescued 11,993 people alive in the disaster. The Nepal Army has rescued a total of 4,364 people, including 4,091 Nepalis and 273 foreigners. The Nepal Army has made 715 sorties for the rescue operation and the private sector helicopters have flown 129 times.

A total of 5,1 35 people have been treated for flood injuries. Of them, 301 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, while 3,206 are from the Nepal Army and 1,628 from the Armed Police Force. Currently, 3,948 people are in the holding centres in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and Kathmandu.

So far, 4,216 people are out of contact due to the floods. Among those who have gone out of contact, 865 are from Rasuwa and 1,558 from Nuwakot. Similarly, 583 foreign tourists, about 900 employees of the hydropower project, 45 soldiers, 25 Nepal Police and 13 Armed Police Force, along with other employees and people’s representatives, are also missing. The search for them is underway, the NRA said.

A total of 21,4 02 security personnel have been deployed across the country for search and rescue operations. Of them, 9,287 are from the Nepal Army, 7,912 from the Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.

Communication services that were disrupted due to the disaster have been gradually restored. All 110 towers of Nepal Telecom have been brought into operation and 75 out of 78 towers of Ncell have started functioning. To avoid fuel shortage in the affected areas, 46,000 liters of diesel, 24,000 liters of petrol and 21,000 liters of aviation fuel have been kept in stock. The government has announced immediate cash relief for the affected districts and local levels. Rs 1 crore each has been released to Rasuwa and Nuwakot and Rs 5 million to Dhading. Similarly, a total of Rs 13.5 crore has been provided to the affected 15 municipalities.

Food and non-food items have been sent to the affected areas by 45 trucks and 37 boleros from Kathmandu. Relief materials are also being transported by air. The Armed Police Force has flown 130 flights to Nuwakot and Rasuwa to deliver relief materials. The NRA has said that it has been making public the details of the contactless foreign nationals, rescued people and the treated people through its official website and Facebook page.
