Kathmandu. The UK has changed the rules related to permanent residency (PR). British Home Minister Sabana Mohammed has announced new rules for immigrants who want to take PR in Parliament.
Many of the rules have been changed in the past.
In the new rules, the time period for PR has been increased from the previous five years to 10 years. On the other hand, under the new ‘Arnaud Settlement’ model, the right to reside in the UK will no longer be automatically available.
That is, it will now depend on how long the migrants have to wait in the UK based on their contribution and conduct. People on low incomes will have to wait longer to be allowed to stay in the UK indefinitely. However, for those on higher incomes and in certain groups, the process has been made easier.
According to the new rules, high-income people with an annual salary of £50,000, £271, health care and education workers, teachers, and others will be eligible for PR after five years. Similarly, people earning more than £125,141 a year, as well as “highly skilled” immigrants on Global Talent or Innovator Founders visas, will be eligible to apply for ILR after three years.
Refugees who cross the Channel by small boat or any other illegal route will have to wait 20 years if they work or study, and 30 years if they do not work or study. Migrants claiming government benefits will have to wait 20 years for permanent residency.
