Kathmandu. Until mid-March of the current fiscal year, the amount of transactions in the securities secondary market has decreased by almost one-third compared to the previous year.
According to the Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS presented by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle in the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, the second share market was traded worth Rs 1028.47 billion till mid-March of the current fiscal year. Such transactions had amounted to Rs. 1,465.66 billion in the same period of the last fiscal year.
Similarly, the average daily transaction volume has also dropped to Rs 7.45 billion from Rs 9.83 billion in the previous year. The number of securities traded decreased by 27.2 percent and the number of transactions decreased by 29.8 percent.
However, NEPSE index and market capitalization were positive compared to the previous year. In mid-March of the current fiscal year, the NEPSE index stood at 2820.45 points, which was higher than the previous year’s 2736.49 points.
Similarly, the total market capitalization increased by 4.42 percent to Rs.4744.73 billion as compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The total market capitalization in the same period of the previous fiscal year was Rs. 4.543 billion.
26 per cent of the total population opened demat accounts
According to the public data, the number of demat account openers has reached 76,39,000 as of mid-March of the current fiscal year. Which is 26.2 percent of the total population. This number was 69,97,000 by July 2082. Similarly, the number of my share accounts was 59,76,000 till Ashad 2082, which has increased to 66,13,000 till February.
Secondary market trades increased
The number of investors trading in the secondary market has increased. According to the public data, the number of investors who have logged in for online trading in the secondary market as of mid-March of the current fiscal year stood at 31,82,462. Such number was 2,549,696 in the same period last year.
