21-day ‘Community Disaster Volunteer’ programme held in Kailali

Kathmandu. A 21-day ‘Community Disaster Volunteer’ training has concluded in Kailali. The training was organized by the Armed Police Force Nepal Number 34 Battalion Headquarters, Kailali in collaboration with the Kailali rural municipality.

The training began on June 1. Raj Samjha Chaudhary, Chairman of Kailali Rural Municipality, was the chief guest of the program.

Brigadier General of Armed Police Force, Nepal No. 7 Baidyanath Brigade Headquarters, Kailali Deputy Inspector General Dig Bijaya Subedi was the special guest of the program.

Similarly, the Armed Police Force, Nepal No. Superintendent of Armed Police Force (APF) Khum Bahadur KC, vice-chair of Kailari Rural Municipality, Bhagawati Kumari Chaudhary, Chief Administrative Officer Dal Bahadur Dhami, ward chairpersons, representatives of Nepal Police, journalists, social workers and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The participants of the training were imparted practical and theoretical knowledge on disaster risk reduction, search and rescue, first aid, fire control and disaster management at the community level.

The speakers of the program stressed the need for skilled human resources in the community during the time of disaster and urged the participants to put into practice the knowledge and skills gained from the training. They also expressed the belief that the trained volunteers would play an important role in disaster management, rescue and relief operations in the future.

It is expected that the training, conducted in collaboration between the local level and security bodies, would significantly contribute to enhance the capacity of the community to enhance the disaster response.
