Will the proposal to provide concessional loans to government employees who want to buy a car be passed?

Artha Sarokar

Kathmandu. The government has proposed to provide concessional loans to employees who want to buy vehicles. This provision has been made in the draft of the ‘Directive on Vehicle Management of Government Employees, 2083’.

The proposal is said to be an alternative to the traditional arrangement of providing vehicles to government employees.

If the proposal is endorsed and implemented, government employees who want to buy their own vehicles will be provided with concessional loans ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 60 lakh depending on the rank and level.

As per the bill, the chief secretary, secretary and 12th level officials will be provided up to Rs 6 million to purchase four-wheelers, Rs 5 million to joint secretary or 11th level employees and Rs 4 million to under-secretary or ninth and 10th level employees.

Similarly, the draft has proposed to provide a loan of up to Rs 4 lakh to the employees of the section officer or 6th level to the 8th level for the purchase of a two-wheeler vehicle and up to Rs 2 lakh for the non-gazetted and assistant level employees. This proposal will be implemented only after the approval of the cabinet and implemented.
