Kathmandu. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, electric vehicles worth Rs 2.98 billion have been imported through Birgunj border point. Compared to the same period last year, the import of electric vehicles increased by 102 percent or Rs 1.50 billion.
Udaya Singh Bista, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said that the import of electric vehicles has increased by cent percent in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, electric vehicles worth Rs 1.48 billion were imported.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 493 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.46 billion were imported. In the same period last year, 172 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 480 million were imported.
A total of 7,398 electric motorcycles worth Rs 960 million were imported in the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, Nepal imported 4,227 electric motorcycles worth Rs 550 million.
Likewise, 4,606 electric three-wheelers were imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, Nepal imported 3,613 electric three-wheelers worth Rs 450 million.
