Policies and Programmes: Health Insurance Programme to be Restructured

Kathmandu. The government has announced restructuring of the health insurance programme. President Ram Chandra Poudel presented the policy and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year while addressing a joint session of the federal parliament on Monday.

s health system will be taken to an integrated service model, health service will be made cost-effective and citizen-friendly and access to basic hospitals will be ensured at all local levels. The government’s policies and programmes have also mentioned expanding capacity of community health workers and women health volunteers.

The bill states that special counseling services would be provided to the people of remote areas through ‘telehealth’, ‘Center for Digital Control’ would be formed for disease surveillance and control, and National Health Accreditation Authority would be formed for improving the quality of health service.

Similarly, a National Biological Studies Laboratory will be established at the federal level to enhance biological studies and epidemic control capacity.

For the control and prevention of cancer and non-communicable diseases, prevention, public awareness, regular check-ups and lifestyle-based strategies will be implemented rather than treatment.

Similarly, the program also includes implementation of the National Mental Health Policy, Yoga, Meditation and Expansion and Promotion of Community-based Health Programs, recognizing mental health as an integral part of public health.

Likewise, the government’s policy and programmes also states that a well-equipped disability rehabilitation centre would be established and special programmes would be run for children with intellectual disabilities with assistive technology.
